SplitCam is a nifty bit of freeware designed to help you to make the most of your various bits of video software. For example, you can use it to clone and split your webcam signals. That means you can move easily between your different video software applications without having your webcam tied up on one job. 

It’s also lots of fun. If you enjoy a bit of messing around on your webcam, there are lots of dressing up features that you can use. For example, you can turn yourself into a line drawing, magically appear next to a moonlit lake or wear a selection of silly hats. 

Because SplitCam is free, you’ll need to brace yourself for the adware. When setting up, watch out because it’s prone to changing your search engine preferences without your permission. And depending on your operating system, you may find that you have some problems with sound.

Pros: It’s a great help for anyone into video multi-tasking or messing around with special effects.

Cons: It’s had a few sound problems in the past and you might be plagued by adware.

Conclusion: If you don’t mind having your internet search preferences changed against your will, and you can put up with adverts, then this is a useful piece of software. There may be some sound problems and if audio is essential, then this may be a deal breaker for you.
